Superhuman chose to directly acquire the meeting recording tool Fathom instead of continuing with in-house development. For this platform, which focuses on AI productivity, meeting content is becoming an entry point for automated tasks, and the acquisition also signifies its desire to integrate meeting context more quickly into its existing product system.
Acquisition Background
Fathom was established in 2020 and has raised over $30 million in funding to date. PitchBook data shows that its valuation in 2024 was $94 million. Its investors include Zoom Apps Fund, Telescope Partners, BoxOne Ventures, and Maven Ventures.
Scale and Product Positioning
Fathom offers a free solution and has accumulated over 400,000 monthly active users. The company claims that more than 1 million people have recorded meetings to date. Superhuman believes that meeting recording tools can not only save content but also extract action items and context.
Superhuman needs to integrate the meeting into the workflow.
Superhuman CEO Shishir Mehrotra indicates that the company conducted internal tests on similar products, and later decided that it was faster to directly acquire a mature team. Superhuman Existing emails, documents, calendars, databases, and AI agent builder products, after being integrated with Fathom, can further automate email generation, update data, arrange follow-up meetings, and enable AI agent to initiate subsequent work based on the meeting content.
