Security staff at the offices of several technology companies in California plan to strike this week, involving companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Nvidia, Amazon, Microsoft, and Salesforce. The union has given a 72-hour notice, and if negotiations fail, some office opening schedules may be adjusted.

A 72-hour notice has been issued.

The union representing security personnel, SEIU-UWWW, stated that relevant staff will cease all shifts starting from 4:30 a.m. on Friday. This action affects outsourced positions that provide building security services for several large technology companies.

The union stated that there are approximately 14,000 security personnel in California represented by them, but it is still not entirely certain whether a strike will actually take place this time. Both labor and management parties plan to continue negotiations on Wednesday and Thursday in an effort to reach an agreement before the deadline.

The dispute focuses on salary and benefits.

This round of general contract negotiations has lasted for several months. Security personnel are demanding higher wages, improved medical benefits, and more comprehensive training for their positions. The security companies participating in the negotiations include Allied Universal, Securitas, GardaWorld, and others.

The union also plans to hold a march in downtown San Francisco on Tuesday, heading towards Salesforce Tower. The union previously announced at a rally on September 3 that its members had authorized the initiation of this strike action.

Or it may affect the arrangements of the public security department of AI company.

If the strike goes ahead, some offices may be temporarily closed, or employees may be required to work remotely. At present, tech companies in the Bay Area have not announced a unified arrangement, but Anthropic has already notified its employees in San Francisco to work remotely for two days in late August.

According to Business Insider, Anthropic learned at that time from the security outsourcing company Allied Universal that there might be a strike by the security team. At the time of the report's release, Meta refused to comment, and companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Nvidia had not yet responded to media inquiries.

AI Industry background receives more attention

At the time of this strike notice, Anthropic has been in the spotlight recently. Last week, the company's researcher Jacob Coxon announced his resignation and publicly criticized the security risks brought about by the super-intelligence competition, which sparked widespread discussion on social media platforms.
