Samsung Electronics announced today that it, as the sole supplier, provided a private 5G network solution for the new headquarters of Hana Financial Group located in Incheon, South Korea, supporting an intelligent office. Samsung stated that, as the first of its kind in South Korea's financial industry, this new type of connected office space not only meets the strict security requirements of the industry but also enhances the convenience of mobile working, laying the foundation for the company's transformation AI ( AX ).
Hana Financial Group has collaborated with SK Telecom and Samsung to build a large-scale smart office at their headquarters, covering 16 floors of the building, multiple group subsidiaries, and thousands of employees. With the help of laptops, tablets, and mobile devices that support 5G, employees can access a seamless working environment anytime and anywhere. Samsung states that this enhanced connectivity helps to make more efficient use of office space, supports employees in improving productivity, and promotes a more agile way of working, while also reducing the time and resources required to reconfigure the office building. This also lays the foundation for the adoption of AI in daily operations.
The article states that financial institutions handle highly sensitive data such as customer credit information and bank details, and are subject to strict network isolation requirements. Therefore, due to security concerns and network risks, the adoption of Wi – Fi is largely limited. This project has deployed a multi-layered security system, including enhanced encryption, firewalls, DDoS protection, and identity authentication based on USIM, allowing only authorized devices and registered users to access the network. Samsung claims that its private 5G solution combines the complete isolation of wired networks with the convenience of wireless connections.
In this project, Samsung provided a complete network solution stack, including radio equipment, baseband, and cloud-native core networks, and also supports the mid-frequency band (4.7GHz) spectrum allocated by South Korea for private 5G networks. Samsung's 5G standalone core network supports network slicing, which involves dividing a single physical network infrastructure into multiple virtual slices, each dedicated to a specific application. With this deployment, the subsidiaries of Hana Financial Group will each connect to an independent network slice, thereby obtaining an independent operating environment that meets their respective security policies and business needs.
