As a pioneer in extending the trading hours for retail investors, Robinhood Markets Inc is now planning to launch a stock trading service on weekends, which will be a first in the modern American financial market.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, customers of Robinhood will soon be able to trade selected stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) ETF over the weekend. This move will further extend the current trading hours from 8 p.m. on Sundays to 8 p.m. on Fridays, New York time. This feature will be implemented by routing orders to the trading venues operated by Bruce Markets.
Robinhood Chief Brokerage Officer Steve Quirk stated in a declaration: "Breaking news doesn't wait for the opening bell to ring."
In the highly competitive retail brokerage sector, Robinhood has achieved sustained growth by rapidly innovating and launching consumer finance products, many of which continuously challenge the boundaries of what is mainstream. The company, headquartered in Menlo Park, California, stated earlier this year that its fastest-growing business segment is predictive markets (event contracts). The firm also mentioned that it has opened up access to more AI intelligent trading tools for its customers.
