Robinhood announces plans to launch perpetual futures for cryptocurrencies to qualified US customers, offering up to 10x leverage; at the same time, the company is also preparing for 24/7 trading of certain US stocks and ETF on weekends.
- Robinhood plans to launch perpetual futures for Bitcoin and Ethereum in the United States, with a leverage of up to 10 times.
- The first batch of supported 8 crypto assets includes BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, ADA, LINK, and HYPE.
- Perpetual contract transactions will incur a fee of 0.01% per transaction before the end of this year, provided by Robinhood Derivatives through the Bitstamp infrastructure.
- Weekend stock trading is expected to begin next year, with the first batch covering certain stocks and ETF, but it still requires regulatory review.
- Robinhood Agents allows users to create AI proxies within the application for market research and to automatically execute transactions.
In the announcement HOOD Summit released on September 29th, Robinhood stated that perpetual contracts will be launched in the coming months, covering BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, ADA, LINK, and HYPE. Bitcoin and Ethereum contracts will offer a maximum leverage of 10 times, while the leverage limit for the remaining six assets is 3 times.
These contracts will not have an expiration date. Robinhood indicates that traders will be able to set stop-loss and take-profit orders, monitor forced liquidation prices in real-time, and receive alerts when their positions are at risk. The CEO, Vlad Tenev, referred to this product as “the first true perpetual contract in the United States” on X, and added that profits and losses will be settled every 15 minutes.
Robinhood encrypted perpetual contracts will cover 8 assets
Sustainable futures allow traders to continuously hold derivative positions without a fixed expiration date, provided that they meet the margin requirements. The US products in the Robinhood initiative will enable qualified users to go long or short on the aforementioned eight crypto assets directly within their applications.
Robinhood plans to charge a fee of 0.01% per transaction by the end of 2026. Apart from indicating that it will be gradually rolled out in the coming months, the company has not provided a specific launch date. BTC and ETH have the highest leverage limits, at 10 times; SOL, XRP, DOGE, ADA, LINK, and HYPE are limited to 3 times.
U.S. regulators earlier this year paved a clearer path for genuine crypto perpetual contracts. On May 29th, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) approved the KalshiEX contract, which is linked to the spot price of Bitcoin, as a futures contract. On the same day, the agency issued a policy statement stating that perpetual contracts linked to asset classes other than those approved by the order should generally be reviewed on a case-by-case basis in accordance with CFTC Rule 40.3.
On May 29th, staff from CFTC also confirmed that, under certain conditions, some of the Deribit perpetual contracts provided by Coinbase Financial Markets could be considered foreign futures. Robinhood did not directly link its planned contracts to this specific staff opinion. The company announced that futures products, including perpetual futures, would be provided by Robinhood Derivatives; this entity is a futures broker registered with CFTC and is also a member of the National Futures Association of the United States (NFA).
Bitstamp will provide support for Robinhood Derivatives.
Robinhood indicates that this US perpetual contract product will be provided by Robinhood Derivatives through Bitstamp. In June 2025, this brokerage firm completed a $200 million acquisition of Bitstamp, incorporating this established crypto exchange into its group system.
The collaboration with Bitstamp continues the approach used by Robinhood in markets outside of the United States. The encrypted perpetual products launched by Robinhood in Europe are routed through Bitstamp's perpetual futures exchange, with an initial leverage of up to 3 times.
By July 2026, Robinhood had expanded its international derivatives product line to include perpetual contracts linked to assets such as gold, silver, crude oil, ETF, and currency pairs. Previous reports from crypto.news indicated that these traditional European financial perpetual products could have a leverage of up to 10 times.
Compared to its earlier encrypted products launched in Europe, the US products planned by Robinhood have increased the leverage limits for BTC and ETH. Tenev indicates on X that the new contracts will not have an expiration date, and profits and losses will be settled every 15 minutes. The available control functions listed in the Robinhood announcement include stop-loss price tracking, reminders, as well as stop-loss and take-profit orders set by users themselves.
In addition to announcing a fee of 0.01% before the end of the year, the company has not released a complete fee schedule. The announcement on September 29th also did not provide a specific date for the official launch of the first batch of contracts; therefore, as of September 30th, the product was still in the planning stage.
The weekend stock trading plan will be launched at the beginning of 2027.
In addition to the encrypted derivatives program, Robinhood is also preparing for 24/7 trading of certain US stocks and ETF. The company stated that weekend trading is expected to be launched at the beginning of next year, but it is still subject to regulatory review.
This service will expand on Robinhood's current "24 Hour Market" offering. Currently, this market covers hundreds of stocks and ETF, with trading hours from 8 p.m. on Sunday evenings to 8 p.m. on Friday evenings, Eastern Time. Weekend trading will begin with a selection of securities and will be available for different account types across Robinhood.
Bruce ATS will provide a trading venue for the weekend trading period. Robinhood states that Bruce is a set of institutional-level alternative trading systems; the Chief Brokerage Officer Steve Quirk said when discussing the weekend trading plan: 'Breaking news won't wait for the opening bell to ring.'
Robinhood This autumn, other trading schedules will also be adjusted. Starting from October, the option trading hours for some assets will be extended to 7:30 am to 4:15 pm Eastern Time. From next month, eligible margin customers will have the option to increase their intraday purchasing power from 2 times to a maximum of 4 times.
Robinhood Agents will bring automated trading into applications
This summit announcement also includes Robinhood Agents, which is an in-app system that allows qualified users to create AI agents for market research, strategy building, and automated trading. Robinhood indicates that since the launch of third-party agency services in May, over 150,000 customers have opened agency trading accounts, and currently these agents use Robinhood tools nearly 30 million times per day.
Robinhood was the first to open up the platform to external AI agents in May through a dedicated trading account and Model Context Protocol tools. crypto.news reported at that time that this setup separated the agents from the customers' main investment portfolios, while allowing for automated operations within the control range set by the users.
Robinhood Agents moves this setting within the application, allowing users to choose from supported models, open dedicated proxy accounts, and set trading instructions and restrictions. During the setup process, the system defaults to manual trading approval, and proxies can only access the funds within the dedicated accounts.
A feature named Loops will allow users to create loop instructions for proxies that check the market and execute trades when preset conditions are met. According to the disclosure document for Robinhood, customers are still responsible for configuring their automated rules as well as monitoring performance, and automated trading, like manual trading, carries the risk of losses.
