Edo Farina responds to Peter Brandt for ignoring the 100 billion coin supply cap and refutes the claim of "fool coin"
Edo Farina, the founder of Alpha Lions Academy and a long-term supporter of XRP, has responded to the recent criticism of this token by senior trader Peter Brandt. In an interview with Coinpedia, Farina stated that Brandt evaluates XRP from the perspective of a payment currency, whereas its holders regard it as a scarce asset at the core of financial infrastructure.
What did Brandt say?
Brandt has repeatedly pointed his criticism at XRP and its community. He described the supporters of that token as having 'cult-like' tendencies and referred to XRP as a 'fool coin.' He acknowledged that XRP allows for low-cost fund transfers, but questioned whether this is sufficient to give the token any value, noting its large supply. During the same period, Brandt also predicted that XRP would rise to $5.40.
"This is not the core logic of XRP."
Farina indicates that the core argument of Brandt is: the fact that an asset is useful for payments does not necessarily mean that its value will increase.
"But this is not the core logic of XRP," he said.
In the view of Farina, those who hold XRP possess a part of this value transfer protocol, rather than just using a service. He compares it to the cross-border banking system, stating that the latter relies on correspondent banks, pre-funded accounts, multiple ledgers, and layers of fees. “Basically, banks control these pathways,” says Farina.
He described XRP as a neutral bridging asset that does not favor any single currency, country, or institution. “This neutrality is not just a feature of XRP, but it is the foundation of its entire value proposition,” he said.
The supply cap is at the heart of the debate.
The strongest opposition comes from his claim that Brandt compares XRP to the US dollar. The Federal Reserve can increase the supply of dollars through monetary policy, whereas the total supply cap of XRP is 100 billion tokens, and a small number of tokens are permanently destroyed as a fee for each transaction.
Farina said, 'If the usage of XRP for settlement increases, it is not possible for the protocol itself to create an additional 100 billion XRP to meet this demand.'
He believes that as more banks and payment companies require liquidity, the growing demand will face a supply that cannot continue to expand. “That’s why it’s absurd to compare XRP to the US dollar,” he added.
Charts and Fundamentals
Farina also pointed out that, in his view, there are contradictions in the stance of Brandt. He said that while Brandt denies the fundamentals of XRP, its own chart analysis indicates a price target of $5.40.
Farina said, "A random line drawn by a random person on a chart is completely different from the fundamentals."
He also added that his purchase of XRP was not with the expectation that someone would be willing to buy it at a higher price in the future. “Protocol ownership is more important than any technical analysis. Peter Brandt does not understand XRP’s liquidity model,” he said.
