Bank of America downgrades ExxonMobil to 'Hold' ( equal weight ), but maintains target price of $182 per share. Analysts say that ExxonMobil's overall operational stability was good in 2026, but it was affected by various timing factors and external headwinds; the downgrade is due to its peers having higher upside potential, and the structural transformation of BP ( BP ) may narrow ExxonMobil's valuation premium.

Bank of America downgrades ExxonMobil ( XOM ) to ‘Hold’ ( equal weight ), but maintains a target price of $182 per share. Based on the closing price of $162.75 on Wednesday, this target price still implies approximately 12% upside potential.

Bank of America analysts' views on this oil giant are as follows:

ExxonMobil exhibited good overall operational stability in 2026, but faced various timing factors and external headwinds, including the disruption to its Qatar project. Based on this, we expect the frequency of production interruptions for ExxonMobil to decrease, and its absolute valuation is expected to recover towards our target price of $182. However, we are giving a 'hold' rating this time because its direct peers have higher upside potential; at the same time, driven by the external environment and portfolio optimization, BP (BP) is undergoing structural transformation, and ExxonMobil's current valuation premium may narrow.
