Amazon has begun distributing a new round of settlement payments to Prime customers, and several million additional consumers may be eligible for refunds. The maximum cumulative compensation amount has been increased to $200.
According to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission ( FTC ), in accordance with a revised court order related to the $2.5 billion settlement with Amazon, the expanded compensation payments were initiated on October 1st. Eligible customers do not need to submit claims or fill out additional documents.
Millions more Amazon Prime customers are now eligible.
This settlement stems from allegations of FTC: Amazon activated Prime subscriptions for consumers without their consent and made it unnecessarily difficult to cancel these services. In September 2025, Amazon agreed to pay a civil fine of $1 billion and to provide consumers with refunds of up to $1.5 billion.
As of September 2026, over $845 million has been distributed to consumers.

FTC Press Release
In the earlier stages, the refund targets were mainly eligible customers who had used less than 10 Prime benefits within a year, with a maximum refund amount of $51. The revised settlement agreement has expanded this scope.
Amazon is currently automatically issuing compensation payments to eligible customers who have used 11 to 20 Prime benefits within the past 12 months. This may allow millions of customers who missed previous rounds of compensation to be included in this settlement plan.
Eligible consumers can receive payments through PayPal, Venmo or by mailing a check. FTC indicates that customers do not need to submit claims, respond to notifications, or fill out forms in order to receive automatic compensation.
Amazon refund amounts can now reach up to $200.
The revised agreement also increases the maximum cumulative compensation amount for each eligible customer from $51 to $200. Customers who have already received compensation under this settlement may ultimately receive an additional payment of up to $149 as well.
According to a court order, Amazon will settle the remaining compensation payments to consumers by the end of March 2027. If the total amount of compensation already received is still less than $1 billion, customers who have previously been compensated will receive additional payments, which could bring their total compensation to $200.
FTC indicates that eligible customers should receive their refunds by April 2027.
