The Nasdaq Composite Index fell 100.07 points on Wednesday, a decline of 0.36%, to close at 27,499.82 points at 1:19 p.m. Eastern Time. After setting a new closing record for the second consecutive trading day, the index gave back some of its gains; on October 6, the index closed at 27,599.79 points.
On that day, the NASDAQ Composite Index fluctuated between 27,341.31 and 27,502.43 points. Investors are awaiting the minutes of the Federal Reserve's meeting on September 15th and 16th, which will be released at 2:00 PM Eastern Time.
At that meeting, policymakers raised the target range for the federal funds rate to 3.75% to 4.00%.
On Tuesday, the Nasdaq index and the S&P 500 index set records, driven by gains in artificial intelligence and chip stocks. At the same time, U.S. Treasury yields fell, and crude oil prices stabilized. The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasuries remained around 5.30%.
However, the range of this upward movement was relatively narrow: while large-cap stock indices were rising, the Russell 2000 index fell by about 0.6%.
