The CEO Tim Grant of Deus X will lead the AI startup project under Darius, which reflects that artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly competitive force in terms of investor attention and funding for cryptocurrencies.
Deus X Capital indicated to CoinDesk that this crypto and fintech investment company has ceased operations, as its supporters are pursuing their own different investment strategies.
The company, led by former Galaxy Digital ( GLXY ) executive Tim Grant, will officially be liquidated on January 31, 2027. Chief Investment Officer Stuart Connolly will continue to be in charge of the transition, and some of the portfolio operations will continue to operate with the participation of existing stakeholders.
The family investors behind Morton are splitting up their respective investment activities. Shane Morton is establishing a firm focused on artificial intelligence, while Owen Morton and Jason Morton are setting up a company named 95, which focuses on markets and fintech.
Grant previously led the European, Middle Eastern, and African operations of Galaxy Digital before joining Deus X. He will now take on the role of CEO at TensorX. TensorX is a startup project under Darius, while Darius is owned by Shane Morton, one of the founders and supporters of Deus X.
In an interview with CoinDesk, Grant stated: 'We hope to become an important participant in the field of artificial intelligence in Europe.'
Cryptocurrencies are facing increasingly fierce competition from artificial intelligence, competing for investors' attention and capital. Galaxy Research stated in September that interest in artificial intelligence is diverting attention away from digital assets, which exacerbates the financing challenges for venture capital firms.
Deus X indicates that since its establishment, it has had an annualized return rate of 36.5%, but it refuses to disclose the total size of its capital.
The company, supported by a family office, was established in October 2023 and at that time had $1 billion in existing investments and deployable capital. Its strategy covers private equity, venture capital, and hedge fund allocation, with investment areas including digital assets, blockchain, fintech, and institutional capital markets.
Its initial investment included holding shares in Galaxy Digital and asset management company Hilbert Group, as well as allocations to multiple hedge funds. The company has operations in Malta, London, and the United Arab Emirates.
In September 2024, it launched Solstice Labs, developing institutional-level decentralized financial products for a broader range of investors. CoinDesk reported that its portfolio also includes its proprietary trading company Alpha Lab 40 and the crypto principal broker Cor Prime, the latter of which was launched after Deus X promised to provide $100 million in venture capital support.
