Anthropic IPO: Research institutions estimate the valuation of this AI company at $150 billion, calling it "the most absurd listing of 2026"
As Anthropic may be on its way to a NASDAQ valuation of $2 trillion, an independent research institution New Constructs estimates the company's value to be around $150 billion and refers to its proposed listing as "the most absurd IPO of 2026."
The institution estimates that Anthropic needs to earn a amount roughly twice that of NVIDIA's net profit over the past year in order to justify this price. NVIDIA's net profit for the past year exceeded $190 billion.
Reuters cited a leaked prospectus report stating that Anthropic had revenue of $4.6 billion and a net loss of $42 billion in 2025.
The founder, David Trainer, is a well-known IPO pessimist. He stated that open-source models make it difficult for closed models to achieve profitability and concluded, "We do not believe that Anthropic has a viable business model."
However, his past judgments were not entirely consistent. In 2019, he accurately identified the issues with WeWork, but in 2020 he was bearish on DoorDash, yet its market value has since grown to 83 billion US dollars.
