According to the Financial Times, OpenAI has stated to investors that its annual revenue is "nearly $50 billion," which is about $20 billion lower than the previously circulated figure of around $70 billion. The report also mentions that the figure of $70 billion comes from information previously shared by OpenAI with investors and was used for direct comparison with the annual revenue of Anthropic.

It is reported that over a week ago, OpenAI had an annual revenue of nearly $70 billion, a figure that could have matched the reported revenue of Anthropic in terms of scale. However, now, this AI laboratory is said to have informed investors that the actual revenue is about $20 billion lower than that figure.

The Financial Times reported that OpenAI has told investors that its annual revenue is “nearly $50 billion.” The media also noted that the previous figure of $70 billion was based on information previously shared by OpenAI with investors. According to the Financial Times, this figure was derived from “OpenAI’s own investors attempting to directly compare it with Anthropic’s annual revenue.”

It is worth noting that OpenAI and Anthropic calculate annualized revenue in different ways – Anthropic includes the sales volume completed by cloud partners in its calculation, whereas OpenAI does not do so.

TechCrunch thus contacted OpenAI to seek a comment.

OpenAI Revenue issues have been plaguing the company, as it tries to provide a reasonable explanation for the massive investments it has received; in just its third round of financing in March, this AI giant raised $122 billion. Financial data for 2025 that was leaked earlier this year showed that the company's revenue was around $13 billion, but expenses were significantly higher. There were previous rumors that the OpenAI's IPO might be advanced this year, but it has now been postponed to early 2027.

Citrini Why They Are More Optimistic About Stocks and Crypto Tokens Rather than Bitcoin or Ethereum for Tokenization Bets
Research institution Citrini Research believes that the tokenization of stocks, bonds, and loans will give rise to new trading and lending markets, and platforms and companies that charge fees may benefit more than Bitcoin or Ethereum. The report specifically mentions tokens from Securitize, Coinbase, Robinhood, Circle, as well as Aerodrome, Maple, Ondo, Pendle, Derive, among others. However, it also reminds that an increase in on-chain activity does not necessarily translate directly into rising token prices.
