KuCoin Nigeria Receives Conditional Principlal Approval for Nigeria Securities and Exchange Commission's Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Program
Oyo State, Nigeria, October 13, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- KuCoin Nigeria Limited has received conditional preliminary approval ( Approval-in-Principle , AIP ) from the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission ( SEC Nigeria ), allowing it to join its accelerated regulatory incubation program ( Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Programme , ARIP ). This progress marks another important milestone in the KuCoin global regulatory process and further reflects the company's long-term commitment to strengthening the global compliance framework and building a credible digital asset infrastructure.
As part of the AIP review process, KuCoin Nigeria presented to SEC Nigeria some aspects of its proposed platform and business model. The presentation covered the proposed products and services for Nigeria, customer onboarding procedures, arrangements for fiat currency deposits and withdrawals, technical infrastructure, as well as governance and risk management frameworks. This conditional preliminary approval does not constitute final registration, licensing, endorsement, or recommendation by SEC Nigeria, nor does it authorize KuCoin Nigeria to commence operations, attract customers, or provide services to the Nigerian public. However, these preliminary preparations reflect KuCoin's commitment to incorporating local accountability, user protection, and risk management into the proposed operations.
KuCoin indicates that Nigeria boasts a vibrant digital economy and a rapidly developing digital asset ecosystem, making it one of the important markets for the adoption and innovation of digital assets globally. KuCoin believes that building a healthy and sustainable digital asset market requires constructive interaction between industry participants and regulatory authorities, as well as continuous improvements in governance, transparency, market integrity, and user protection.
KuCoin's regulatory communication in Nigeria is part of its broader strategy to meet local requirements in key markets. In Europe, KuCoin EU has obtained authorization under the MiCAR framework to provide regulated crypto asset services throughout the EU. In Australia, KuCoin operates through Axis One Markets Pty Ltd and has been registered as a digital currency trading service provider in AUSTRAC. Each authorization or registration is only applicable to the relevant entity and activities within the applicable jurisdiction. None of the aforementioned authorizations or registrations grant KuCoin Nigeria the right to operate or provide services in Nigeria. KuCoin indicates that the company is committed to respecting the local regulatory frameworks of each market, ensuring its operations comply with applicable requirements, and obtaining the necessary authorizations or registrations in each jurisdiction.
KuCoin CEO BC Wong stated: "Receiving the conditional and principled approval of SEC Nigeria marks another important milestone in KuCoin's global compliance process. As digital assets increasingly become an essential part of the global financial system, trust must be established through continuous strengthening of governance, maintaining high standards of compliance, and enhancing user protection. We value the opportunity to engage constructively with SEC Nigeria through ARIP and will continue to advance our efforts in line with Nigeria's evolving regulatory framework. We will remain focused on strong governance, high standards of compliance, and effective user protection to support the responsible and sustainable development of the digital asset ecosystem."
KuCoin indicates that for them, compliance is not only about meeting regulatory requirements but also about building long-term trust. Looking to the future, KuCoin will continue to promote responsible innovation, strengthen its global governance, operational resilience, and user protection capabilities, and work with regulatory authorities, partners, and industry participants to support the development of a more mature, transparent, and trustworthy digital asset market.
