Key Points
- XRP has launched its first exclusive official X account.
- Ripple and XRP Ledger Foundation jointly manage this account.
- This arrangement will not change the governance rules of XRP Ledger.
XRP launched its first official account on X, more than 14 years after XRP Ledger began operating. This new social media account is co-managed by Ripple and XRP Ledger Foundation.
@XRP made its debut on October 19th with a short message: “hello, world. It’s about time.” The post also included a 10-second video showcasing the XRP logo, which received public welcome from Ripple executives, foundation members, and participants in the cryptocurrency industry.
The account profile describes XRP as a native digital asset on the decentralized XRP Ledger, and clearly states that Ripple and XRP Ledger Foundation are its administrators. However, joint control of the account does not mean that either party can unilaterally modify the trading rules of XRP or the underlying blockchain.
Ripple and Monica Long welcome the official account of XRP
Ripple is one of the earliest institutions to respond to new accounts, and emphasized that the company has been collaborating with thousands of XRP Ledger developers and contributors for over a decade.
President Ripple also issued a statement on October 19th to welcome this launch, praising those who have been supporting and developing the XRP ecosystem even before it gained wider recognition.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse also joined in this announcement, stating that such progress was long overdue. XRP Ledger Foundation issued a separate statement to welcome the news, briefly mentioning that XRP's online presence has entered a new phase.
It is reported that within the first two hours of its launch, the account attracted approximately 33,000 followers, demonstrating the strong interest in sources that specifically publish content related to XRP.
The establishment of this account has granted XRP an independent identity that distinguishes it from the communication channels of Ripple. The latter is increasingly focusing on institutional hosting, payment infrastructure, and the company's global XRP strategy.
Who really controls XRP and XRP Ledger?
This announcement highlights the long-standing differences between Ripple, XRP, and XRP Ledger.
Ripple is a privately held fintech company. XRP is a type of digital asset, while XRPL is the open-source blockchain on which XRP operates.
As previously analyzed by Coinpaper regarding Ripple and XRP, the company will contribute to the ecosystem, but it does not own the network itself.
This distinction also applies to financial ownership. Shareholders holding Ripple own equity in the company, whereas those holding XRP do not automatically acquire ownership rights to the company.
XRPL adopts a consensus system based on verification nodes to process transactions and to decide whether protocol revisions can take effect.
According to the official revision rules of that network, proposed changes usually require trusted verification nodes to receive support from over 80% of the nodes for two consecutive weeks.
This process means that even if Ripple or the official X account managed by the foundation for XRP cannot unilaterally implement new trading rules as a result.
Discussions surrounding the governance of XRPL and the role of Ripple in supporting network development have recently received renewed attention.
As the new XRP account goes live, network upgrades are approaching.
The launch of this social media account also coincided with the period when XRP Ledger was actively developing.
Another upgrade scheduled for October 23 is approaching its proposed effective date, yet the revisions related to lending still fall below the required threshold of support from verification nodes.
@XRP The debut of this account did not announce any network upgrades, token distributions, or changes to the circulating supply of XRP. There is also no evidence at present to suggest that it will have a direct impact on token demand or price.
However, dedicated accounts may still provide a clearer channel for ecological announcements and educational content, especially as investors strive to distinguish between official progress, impersonated accounts, and false information.
XRP Ledger Foundation had previously warned users about cryptocurrency reward campaigns that were related to Ripple and XRP, but which were actually fraudulent.
