Super Micro Computer, Inc. (Nasdaq ticker: SMCI) indicates that the company is collaborating with Nokia to deploy artificial intelligence wireless access networks (AI-RAN) in scenarios ranging from distributed base stations to centralized network hubs. This solution combines Nokia's RAN technology and networking expertise, the NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer platform, as well as Supermicro infrastructure optimized for AI.
By bringing accelerated computing closer to the access network, this solution enables wireless and AI workloads to run on shared infrastructure, supporting applications that require low latency and predictable service levels, including voice AI, visual AI, physical AI, as well as internal uses such as automated network operations and maintenance.
Supermicro, President and CEO, Charles Liang stated: " AI-RAN is redefining the network for AI, transforming mobile infrastructure into a shared foundation that connects AI in RAN, AI on RAN, as well as a broader range of distributed AI services. Together with Nokia and NVIDIA, we are bringing accelerated computing to every layer of the network, helping operators maximize infrastructure efficiency, deploy new AI services, and prepare for AI native 6G. Our DCBBS approach provides flexibility and performance, accelerates deployment, and transforms network infrastructure into an innovation platform."

After integrating accelerated computing into RAN, operators can run both network and AI workloads on the same infrastructure, thereby improving spectrum efficiency, automating network operations and maintenance, and optimizing energy usage. At the same time, this creates new opportunities for edge AI services. By combining the Supermicro system with Nokia's RAN technology and software, the NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer platform provides modular, on-demand configurable combinations of CPU and GPU for deployment from base stations to MSO and aggregation nodes. NVIDIA ConnectX technology offers high-speed, software-defined networking capabilities. Together, these capabilities provide operators with a flexible foundation that supports current low-latency AI applications and outlines a software-driven evolution path towards 6G networks.
Emma Falck, President of Nokia's Mobile Infrastructure, stated: " AI-RAN is an important step towards more intelligent and adaptable mobile networks. By combining Nokia's leadership in wireless networks with NVIDIA's accelerated computing and Supermicro's flexible infrastructure, we provide operators with a practical way to integrate RAN and AI workloads within their networks. This will help operators enhance network performance and automation today, while also laying the foundation for new edge AI services and AI native 6G."
NVIDIA's Vice President of Telecommunications Business, Soma Velayutham, stated: "5G combines networking, accelerated computing, and intelligence to help operators make better use of their infrastructure, while opening up new opportunities for edge services. Nokia and Supermicro are assisting operators in deploying 5G solutions in diverse network environments, ranging from distributed base stations to centralized locations, and these solutions have the flexibility to expand intelligent capabilities as demand grows."
Supermicro is a modular, on-demand configuration system designed for NVIDIA ARC. It covers distributed base stations, aggregation nodes, and core hubs, enabling operators to deploy AI computing power precisely where it is needed.
- Distributed base stations: The ARC MGX 2U compact platform brings inference capabilities closer to radios, users, and applications. NVIDIA MGX is a modular reference architecture designed for accelerated computing, helping system builders to more quickly design systems that are compatible with future technologies, reducing costs, accelerating time-to-market, and improving return on investment. The dual-node ARC-Pro of Supermicro is configured in a 429-mm chassis, with each node consisting of one NVIDIA Grace C1 CPU and one NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 Blackwell Server Edition GPU, providing up to 1.6 PFLOPS of FP4 AI computing power. For edge network functions such as service management and orchestration, ARC-Compact offers high-efficiency computing performance in a 1U compact form.
- Centralized MSO and aggregation nodes: ARC MGX 2U supports higher throughput for collaborative inference. This system allows for selection between dual NVIDIA Vera CPU or dual x86 processors, and is equipped with two NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPU. Such systems support multi-cell workloads, including collaborative scheduling and beamforming, as well as voice, vision, and physical AI applications.
- Core Network Hub: The ARC MGX 4U provides high-density, air-cooled inference capabilities, and can accommodate up to eight NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPU. The 4U Supermicro AI servers are equipped with dual x86 CPU and up to 6TB of DDR5 memory, designed to support large-scale inference and model update workloads. This configuration can also be optionally equipped with a NVIDIA ConnectX -8 switch board to provide PCIe Gen 6, enabling faster interconnection between GPU.
Supermicro indicates that the servers designed for NVIDIA ARC are now widely available. The 2U ARC MGX equipped with dual Vera processors will be exhibited at NVIDIA GTC Berlin from October 20th to 22nd, 2026, and will be launched later this year. The 2U ARC-Pro is scheduled for customer testing later this year, with widespread availability expected in the first half of 2027.
