Texas Senate Democratic candidate James Taralico (James Talar token issuance) responded to Elon Musk (Elon Musk) on Wednesday evening, after the world's richest man posted on X a few hours earlier stating, "There is something seriously wrong with Taralico in some aspects."
In responding to Musk's tweet, Taralico wrote: "The real problem lies in a political system that allows a billionaire to buy his own private U.S. senator."
Earlier on Wednesday, Taralico also specifically criticized Musk during a campaign speech held at the main campus of the University of Houston UH Hilton. According to reports from Houston Public Media, he said, "It's very likely that if you've seen the offensive ads on the screen, it was Elon. If you've received lies in your email, it was Elon."
“If you’ve received any text messages saying I’m terrible, they were also sent by Elon,” Tarrikko said. “Elon Musk wants our land. He wants our water. He wants our taxpayer money. He wants his own U.S. senators. He’s trying to buy Texas. But on November 3rd, we’ll send a clear message to the world’s first trillionaire: Texas is not for sale.”
The mutual mockery between Musk and Tarrikko occurred five days after it was revealed that Musk donated $158 million to the Republican Super Political Action Committee Senate Leadership Fund in September.
This funds ultimately flowed to Texas PAC, an organization that is supporting Ken Paxton ( Ken Paxton ), the Republican candidate and Texas Attorney General, who is an opponent of Tarriko.
Musk also donated an additional $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC, who is also supporting Paxton.
Elon Musk concurrently serves as the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla (Tesla). He made this substantial donation when polls showed that Paxton was behind Tararico.
Tarrico's campaign team stated last week that he raised $64 million in the third quarter of this year. The team said this is the highest amount ever raised by a Senate candidate in the third quarter.
In contrast, Paxton's campaign team raised only $18 million in the same quarter.
Paxton defeated the current Senator John Cornyn ( John Cornyn ) in the Republican primary earlier this year.
As of press time, Paxton's campaign team has not immediately responded to requests for comment.
