CompTIA AgentOps + Authentication will verify the skills for deploying, protecting, and governing AI proxies.
Downers Grove, Illinois, USA, October 22nd / PRNewswire / -- Artificial intelligence ( AI ) agents are rapidly entering corporate operations, but the skills required to manage them in a responsible manner have not yet been clearly defined. CompTIA announced today that it plans to develop a new certification program to define and verify these skills.
CompTIA AgentOps + aims to establish a vendor-neutral standard for professionals responsible for deploying, protecting, monitoring, and governing AI proxies. This certification is aimed at an emerging field that covers AI, network security, cloud infrastructure, and IT operations and maintenance.
CompTIA, the Senior Vice President in charge of examination services, Carl Bowman stated: "People have always been concerned about what AI agents can do, but the more pressing question is who will protect, govern, and be responsible for them. As agents gain access to corporate data and work processes, organizations need professionals who are capable of managing them in a safe and responsible manner. CompTIA intends to help define these standards."
According to KPMG's report released in the first quarter of 2026, titled "AI Quarterly Pulse Survey", over half (54%) of organizations are actively deploying AI proxies. This shift is expected to bring improvements in productivity, but it also introduces new security, governance, and operational risks. Deloitte found that among the surveyed companies, only 21% have a mature autonomous proxy governance model.2
The design of CompTIA AgentOps will revolve around the principles of sustainable operation, rather than the products or services of any single technology provider. The planned certifications are expected to verify the following skills:
- Deploy and integrate the AI proxy.
- Protecting proxy identities, permissions, and data access
- Monitor performance, behavior, and operational health status.
- Identify and respond to risks and events related to proxies
- Supports governance, accountability, auditability, and human supervision.
This certification is aimed at professionals in the fields of DevOps, cloud operations and maintenance, platform engineering, system management, and network security. For employers, this certification provides a way to enhance employees' skills and verify their AI operations and maintenance capabilities. Educational institutions and training providers can prepare learners for emerging AI operations and maintenance positions.
CompTIA AgentOps and a complete set of related learning product plans will be launched in the second quarter of 2027.
