Axon Body offers 25 times the processing power of an earlier generation of cameras (AI), and also improves connectivity, audio quality, and battery life to support real-time situational awareness on-site.

Scottsdale, Arizona, October 24th / PRNewswire / -- Axon (Nasdaq ticker: AXON), a global leader in public safety technology, today announced the launch of Axon Body 5, its latest handheld law enforcement recorder designed to bring more powerful intelligence, connectivity, and real-time support directly to frontline officers.

Over the years, the law enforcement recorders of Axon have helped organizations preserve critical evidence and enhance transparency. Body is designed to assist officers in obtaining information, support, and assistance at the scene of incidents.

Axon Founder and CEO Rick Smith stated: "Officers should not have to choose between gathering information and observing the scene. With Axon Body 5, they no longer need to. They can use cameras to take pictures of driver's licenses or identification documents, keep their hands free, and maintain a forward-facing line of sight. This allows them to obtain information more quickly than by taking handwritten notes and then calling over the radio. An officer who remains focused on the subject in front of them, rather than bending down to write notes, is safer and can better serve the community."

Axon Body 5: Born for the era of AI

Axon indicates that Body is designed from scratch for the AI era, offering 25 times the AI processing power compared to the previous generation of Axon law enforcement recorders. It also sees improvements in connectivity, audio, video, and battery life. The company claims that these upgrades endow the camera with the hardware capability to perform more intelligent AI functions – which are not only suitable for current applications but also support the development of new AI tools in the future – while also making it more reliable in everyday use.

Axon also launches two versions of its latest flagship camera for the first time: Axon Body 5 and Axon Body 5 Pro.

Both models feature multiple key upgrades, including:

  • AI Processing power increased by 25 times: The new computing architecture provides the computational foundation for directly supporting current and future AI functions on portable cameras.
  • Enhanced Video: The improved video can capture clearer evidence in complex environments, including better performance in low-light conditions.
  • Enhanced connectivity: Achieve smoother connections in both urban and remote areas, and provide more accurate positioning capabilities to help officers, cameras, and remote support teams stay connected at critical moments when information is most vital.
  • Longer battery life: Compared to the previous generation, battery life has been increased by 20%, which helps ensure that the camera remains available and connected throughout the officer's shift.

Axon indicates that Body and Pro will continue to acquire new AI capabilities as the AI era plan progresses. In addition to this, the new hardware features also include:

  • Close-range camera: An additional dedicated lens allows officers to scan driver's licenses, verify their status, and search for warrants of arrest or wanted notices within seconds, without the need to return to the patrol car. The relevant information is sent to Axon Fusus to support real-time actions.
  • Front-mounted speakers: Four additional speakers have been added to direct stronger audio towards the subjects the officers are speaking to, helping Axon Assistant's real-time translation to be conveyed more clearly amidst heavy traffic or crowd noise.
  • Additional storage: More space allows cameras to run multiple AI tools simultaneously, helping officers obtain more information and work faster.

Bringing more capabilities of the Axon AI era to the scene

Axon indicates that Body brings intelligent tools directly to the field, helping officers make more full use of the plans of the Axon AI era. Axon The existing product portfolio already supports public safety professionals in handling an increasing number of tasks. For example, Draft One can help officers convert audio from law enforcement recorders into high-quality report drafts, while Axon Assistant provides voice-based information access and real-time translation.

Axon is also increasingly incorporating AI into real-time actions.

Axon Guardian is a new AI functional category within the plans of the AI era, specifically designed to be used in conjunction with officers' on-site equipment – starting from handheld cameras and vehicle-mounted cameras – to enhance security. Guardian aims to identify potential risks as situations unfold and issue alerts when additional attention may be required. The first two features include:

  • Upgrade Detection: When the Axon Body or Axon Body cameras are activated and recording, Guardian is capable of detecting potential conflicts in real-time and generating alerts within Axon Fusus. Subsequently, human personnel will review the live stream to determine whether additional support or action is required.
  • Near-alarm function: When Axon Fleet is enabled, Guardian can detect whether the doors of parked vehicles are open and issue a reminder to officers through the in-vehicle display screen and the portable law enforcement recorder.

Axon indicates that Axon Body 5, together with the continuously expanding product portfolio of the AI era, demonstrates that AI is a key resource for helping public safety professionals provide support before, during, and after incidents – it can reduce administrative burdens, enhance situational awareness, and help protect more lives.
