Meta Continuing with rapid testing, AI, they have now launched a new application called Waddle World. Essentially, it is a replica of Tamagotchi with AI functionality. It might just be a test, but it is also very likely to be the precursor to a hardware device driven by Muse and similar to Tamagotchi produced by the company.
The company has launched Waddle World on the iOS and Android platforms in the Philippines. Social media consultant Matt Navarra discovered this application. Users can choose and raise a virtual pet, feed it, and play with it.
We have contacted Meta to seek their comments on the plan for a wider rollout. If we receive a response, we will update this article accordingly.
Meta The description of this app indicates that the company does not intend for it to become a product that creates habits. The app page also states that it is not a chatbot and is labeled as suitable for users over 18 years of age.
The application description reads: “Waddle World is a comfortable 16-bit world where your pixel pets live. Hatch a virtual pet, visit it whenever you want, and let it get to know you. No stress, no need for continuous clock-in, no scores to chase – just a little warm escape in the gaps of your daily life.”
"It's not a chatbot. It's not an assistant. It's not a productivity tool. It's a pet, and it's also a place. Whether you stay for two minutes or twenty minutes, it will be just as happy."
This app also has a diary function, where users can describe their day through voice or text. The pet will listen to the user and write the content into a record with doodles in its own voice. The app also offers mini-games that can be completed in just a few minutes, and it sends an email to the user once a week based on its understanding of the user.
Considering that companies such as Character.AI and OpenAI are facing lawsuits for their products being alleged to cause harm to teenagers, Meta may wish to avoid developing companion applications.
As of now, the social media giant has also launched AI related applications, which include Pocket. The latter allows users to create games using vibe and coding, as well as Vibes, which enables users to quickly generate videos.
In addition to virtual pets, some companies have also attempted to launch hardware AI pets.
