Ethereum Economic Zone ( EEZ ) announced three new demonstrations, involving CoW Swap, Safe, and post-quantum signatures, showcasing how applications on Ethereum rollup can directly interact with the mainnet in a single transaction.
- EEZ announced three technical demonstrations on Devcon, involving CoW Swap, Safe, and post-quantum signatures. The transactions were coordinated and completed between the Ethereum mainnet and rollup.
CoW Swap demonstrates how users on rollup can use the liquidity of the Ethereum mainnet to execute transactions and receive tokens in the same transaction, without the need for separate bridging or additional signatures.
Safe demonstrated the coordination of wallet ownership changes and treasury access across the Ethereum network, enabling account permissions to be updated and verified within a single transaction.
Developers verified the post-quantum signature of Falcon on rollup, and used the verification results to authorize mainnet transfers. The team claims that this resulted in a 91% reduction in the consumption of gas.
In a statement on November 4th, the EEZ team indicated that these advancements represented three “firsts” in terms of synchronous composability between the Ethereum base layer and their rollup. A live demonstration was scheduled to take place at the Devcon held in Mumbai.
These demonstrations cover a decentralized exchange transaction that utilizes mainnet liquidity, a multi-signature wallet ownership change coordinated across networks, and the authorization of a mainnet transfer after quantum signature verification on rollup.
Developers Friederike Ernst and Eduardo Antu along with ez plan to demonstrate this technology at Lotus Stage at 1:00 PM Indian Standard Time. On-site viewers will be able to see these transactions in action.
Ethereum Economic Zone enables rollup transactions to utilize mainnet liquidity.
The first demonstration involves CoW Swap: A user located on a network named Rollup X placed an order, which was matched using the liquidity available on the Ethereum mainnet.
EEZ The team stated that the solver of CoW Swap executed this transaction using the liquidity of the mainnet, and ultimately the tokens were sent back to rollup within the same transaction.
This process does not require a separate bridging transaction, waiting period, or additional user signatures.
Usually, when users transfer assets between Ethereum and its Layer 2 network, they must first interact with the bridging infrastructure in order to access liquidity on the other chain. Depending on the bridge and network, completing the transfer may involve separate transactions and confirmation cycles.
The approach of EEZ allows connected networks to coordinate their execution, ensuring that different parts of a transaction either succeed together or fail together.
Developers say that this will help the newly launched rollup to access the existing Ethereum liquidity without relying entirely on its own trading pool, as limited liquidity may result in higher slippage for users.
This demonstration builds upon the early milestones of October, when the project completed its first atomic mainnet transaction involving 0.001 ETH.
As previously reported by crypto.news, this transaction coordinates the transfer between Ethereum and a rollup with status updates, establishing an early operational example for the framework's cross-chain execution model.
Safe Demonstrates cross-chain coordination of wallet ownership changes
The second demonstration focuses on Safe, which is a multi-signature wallet infrastructure commonly used by decentralized autonomous organizations and cryptocurrency vault managers.
EEZ indicates that the developer demonstrated the first atomic ownership transfer between Ethereum Layer 1 and Layer 2, as well as access to treasury assets held across multiple Safe accounts.
In the example, users can update wallet owners across different networks and access treasury funds through coordinated execution.
The team explained that the change in ownership of the Safe account on the Ethereum mainnet can be read and verified by the rollup account connected in the same transaction.
This coordination solves the potential issues that may arise when an organization maintains independent Safe accounts on multiple blockchains.
Changes to the authorized signer or wallet permissions usually need to be performed separately on each network, which can lead to inconsistencies in account configurations over a short period of time.
This demonstration shows how the EEZ framework coordinates these updates between participating chains, without requiring users to complete ownership management processes separately on each chain.
Post-quantum signature verification can save 91% gas
The third demonstration involved post-quantum cryptography: The developer verified a Falcon signature on Rollup X, and used the verification result to authorize a transaction on the Ethereum mainnet.
According to EEZ, a mainnet smart contract called rollup to check the signature verification results and authorized a transfer within the same transaction.
Falcon is a digital signature algorithm designed to withstand attacks from quantum computers, which may ultimately pose a threat to certain encryption methods used in blockchain systems.
The team stated that if verification is carried out directly on the Ethereum mainnet, it would require approximately 5.5 million gas.
By performing the computational work on rollup and having the mainnet use the verified results, this demonstration achieved a claimed 91% reduction in gas consumption.
This example involves the verification of post-quantum signatures and their use in transaction authorization, and is not intended to replace Ethereum’s existing signature system.
Developers consider this result as another use case for synchronous composability, which is particularly suitable for computationally intensive operations that can be processed outside of the base layer but still require access to mainnet contracts.
EEZ development has progressed to Gnosis Chain integration
These demonstrations are a continuation of the development work that took place several months after Gnosis, Zisk, and the Ethereum Foundation launched Ethereum Economic Zone in EthCC in April.
This framework is designed to address the issues of liquidity and application fragmentation in Ethereum's continuously expanding Layer 2 network ecosystem, while also allowing participating chains to settle transactions on Ethereum.
Its development subsequently became part of the Gnosis Chain plan to transform into Ethereum rollup.
In August, GnosisDAO approved this transformation through governance proposal GIP, which received 123,158 votes in the form of GNO and met the required participation threshold.
According to the approved plan, Gnosis Chain will ultimately retire the existing validator set and use Ethereum for settlement and economic security guarantees.
It is expected that this transformation will retain the existing applications, account balances, contract addresses, and chain identifiers. The initial deployment target is set for the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027, depending on the technical preparation situation.
At the same time, Consensys has launched its interoperable platform for institutions on Devcon, and plans to support EEZ standards in future integrations.
EEZ The developers have provided technical demonstration explanations through build.eez.io and eez.dev, and have invited developers to try out this experimental network via the project's Devcon booth or remotely.
