Muse Voice is a feature that allows users to call and have video chats with Muse, the consumer-facing AI agent of Meta. Meta announced on Thursday that this feature is now available to all users in the United States.
This video chat feature was initially launched in September at the developer conference of Connect in Meta. It utilizes new AI models, namely Muse Realtime Avatar and Muse Realtime Voice, to power the digital avatars that engage with users in conversation.
Although other AI competitors also offer voice chat functionality, Meta's Muse comes with a cute animated avatar with the nickname Jolly. Users can ask questions through it or request it to handle tasks on their behalf. Users can also customize this avatar to make it look more like a person, an animal, or another character of their choice.
Meta believes that personifying Muse in this way may create a stronger connection between consumers and their own AI agents; as they begin to engage in real-time conversations with them, this connection could further strengthen.
When the Muse profile picture “speaks,” Meta indicates that it will use “subtle expressions and gestures” that match the tone of the conversation.
The news of the launch of this feature was announced by Meta, the chief AI official Alexandr Wang, through his blog and on X. He also shared a demonstration video of his interaction with Muse. In the video, Wang jokingly mentioned that he enjoys posting meme images on X and told Muse that this might get him into trouble with his boss. Wang's Muse is a fluffy white dog character, which responded by saying that a disclaimer could be added to those meme images that might be misunderstood as approving any pornographic content. (Haha!)
New video chat and call support has been added, and its launch timing coincides perfectly with the Meta plan to release a wearable device similar to Tamagotchi before the end of the year. Once this device is available, a digital avatar will appear on its small screen, allowing users to converse with it, and it can then respond or perform tasks on their behalf.
Meta indicates that the real-time dialogue feature is supported on mobile devices, web pages, and Mac. In the future, it will also be extended to its AI glasses as well as the upcoming " Muse Charm " hardware devices.
