The latest data centers combine liquid cooling, renewable energy, and global connectivity to support the computing needs of the next generation.
Redwood City, California, USA, November 6th / PRNewswire / -- Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq ticker: EQIX) Today, we announced the launch of SG6 in Singapore, which marks our sixth international business exchange center (IBX) data center in the country. SG6 is designed to support AI, high-performance computing, and data-intensive workloads, further expanding our global network of over 280 data centers across Equinix. It provides customers with the infrastructure needed to achieve connectivity, innovation, and expansion in an economy increasingly driven by AI.
As global enterprises accelerate their investment in AI, cloud, and digital services, the demand for highly interconnected infrastructure that can support the next generation of applications while advancing sustainable development goals is growing. SG6 is located in one of the most strategically connected markets in the Asia-Pacific region, combining private networking, a global ecosystem, and advanced infrastructure to help organizations deploy distributed digital workloads in different regions.
Equinix Chief Executive Officer and President Adaire Fox - Martin stated: "Singapore is at the intersection of global business, digital technology, and sustainable development. Equinix has been investing in Singapore for nearly 25 years, and our new facilities will further expand our presence as a neutral exchange platform, connecting businesses with the cloud, networks, and partners they need for innovation and growth. Singapore is one of our most important markets globally, and our continued investment here proves its central role in the digital economy."
SG6 is one of the first data centers developed based on the application framework of the Singapore data center. It is designed to support high-density AI deployments through advanced cooling technologies, including proprietary cooling systems and liquid cooling capabilities, in order to accommodate high-power-consuming GPU infrastructure.
The activation of SG6 further advances Equinix's "sustainable development strategy of Future First", and is in line with the company's scientific commitments to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040 and to cover 100% of its global retail IBX data centers with renewable energy by 2030. Equinix's data center in Singapore has maintained 100% coverage with renewable energy since 2020. The design goal for SG6 is PUE, and it plans to obtain Green Mark Platinum certification. This facility is also equipped with rooftop and facade solar photovoltaic systems, rainwater collection capabilities, as well as low-carbon building materials to support more efficient operations and responsible growth.
Equinix, President of the Asia-Pacific Region, Cyrus Adaggra stated: "The Asia-Pacific region is at the forefront of digital transformation. The adoption of AI, cloud expansion, and data-intensive workloads are driving unprecedented demand for high-performance digital infrastructure. Singapore remains a strategic gateway to serve enterprises in this region, connecting key markets, talent, and innovation ecosystems. SG6 has enhanced our ability to support customers' expansion in the Asia-Pacific region, providing them with the resilience, connectivity, and sustainable infrastructure they need to accelerate innovation and seize new growth opportunities."
SG6 The initial investment is approximately 290 million US dollars, with the first phase providing a capacity of 8 megawatts, capable of delivering about 1,550 cabinets. Once fully constructed, the facility will be able to provide a maximum capacity of 20 megawatts IT.
Equinix also plans to collaborate with the National University of Singapore in 2027 to establish a co-creation facility ( CIF ) at SG6. This facility will focus on promoting technologies that enhance the sustainability and energy efficiency of data centers, including liquid cooling, cognitive digital twins, and battery energy storage systems.
Since entering Singapore in 2002, Equinix has expanded from a single data center to six facilities, becoming one of the most densely interconnected digital infrastructure hubs in the Asia-Pacific region. Equinix's operations in Singapore connect enterprises to the cloud, as well as to a rich ecosystem of IT, financial services, communications, media, and technology providers. At the same time, it supports connections to global markets through more than 17 submarine cable systems.
