According to CoinMeta, the Mexican Federal Prosecution Agency, the Navy, and the police of Puebla state recently raided a facility in Tlaola, seizing approximately 300 cryptocurrency mining devices, as well as transformers, medium-voltage terminals, and satellite network equipment. The investigation indicates that the mining site is suspected of illegally drawing power from the hydroelectric facilities that supply electricity to the Nueva Necaxa Dam, and the individuals involved may face charges of power theft. Local media reported that the equipment in question is GPU, which may have been used for mining other cryptocurrencies primarily using graphics cards. The possibility of it being used for Bitcoin money laundering has not yet been ruled out, and investigators are tracing the source of funds for the equipment and whether the profits from mining are related to criminal activities.
