According to CoinMeta, the German Ministry of Finance has proposed to impose a 25% tax on cryptocurrencies starting from 2028, changing the current law that exempts crypto gains held for more than 12 months from taxation. This proposal applies to all crypto assets acquired after January 1, 2027, and it is recommended that digital assets purchased before this deadline be protected and continue to be subject to the old tax regime. Finance Minister Lars Klinner stated that he expects crypto taxation to bring an additional income of about 2 billion euros (approximately 2.3 billion US dollars) to Germany.
