WTO: The obstacle of stablecoins in international trade is the inconsistent regulatory frameworks

According to CoinMeta, the Director of the Trade in Services and Investment Division of the World Trade Organization (WTO), WTO, Juan Marchetti stated that the main obstacle to the use of stablecoins in international trade is not technology, but rather the varying regulatory frameworks across different jurisdictions. WTO research indicates that stablecoins currently account for only about 3% of international payments, but the scale of cross-border stablecoin payments is expected to grow by approximately 35 times from 2020 to mid-2024. The report suggests that stablecoins have the potential to alleviate issues such as high costs, low efficiency, limited access, lack of transparency, and foreign exchange restrictions in trade financing.
