Yields on government bonds of major global economies hit new highs in decades

According to CoinMeta, government bond yields are reaching levels not seen in decades. The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds has exceeded 5%, the highest since 2007; the yield on 30-year Treasury bonds has also surpassed 5.4%, the highest since 2004. Japan’s 10-year Treasury bond yield is at 3%, the highest since 1996; the UK’s 10-year Treasury bond yield has exceeded 5.4%, the highest since 2007; France’s 10-year Treasury bond yield has surpassed 4.5%, the highest since 2008; and Germany’s 10-year Treasury bond yield is at 3.5%, the highest since 2009. Borrowing costs for major global economies are rising, putting pressure on corporate profits as well as on the conditions of the stock and crypto markets, as higher bond yields raise the threshold for other forms of risky investment. Existing home sales in the United States are at their lowest level in 30 years as of 2025, and global mortgage costs are on the rise, a impact that the market will feel.
