Citi: The long-term trend of the Japanese yen may have turned towards appreciation
2026-09-30 11:46:01
According to CoinMeta, a strategist at Citibank stated in a report that with the Bank of Japan raising interest rates and Japanese interest rates increasing, the long-term trend for the yen may have shifted towards appreciation. The strategist pointed out that there has been a clear change in the policy stance of the Abe Shinzo government; its previous inclination to promote inflation may now be weakening. Citibank noted that after Japan emerged from deflation under the "Abenomics" policies of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, it was necessary for the policy to shift from supporting a weaker yen to supporting a stronger yen. At the same time, Citibank said that the policy stance of the United States has also changed, moving from restricting the yen from weakening excessively to guiding it to strengthen.
