According to CoinMeta, Mastercard completed the acquisition of BVNK on August 3, 2026, for a transaction amount of up to $1.8 billion. BVNK is a company headquartered in London that handles fiat and stablecoin payments in 130 countries. The acquisition price exceeded BVNK's valuation of $750 million in December 2024, demonstrating the strong demand from payment giants for infrastructure services. Mastercard's Chief Product Officer, Jorn Lambert, stated that digital currencies, especially stablecoins, are meeting the practical needs for cross-border B2B payments, remittances, and settlements. Meanwhile, after losing BVNK, Visa issued a request for new stablecoin settlement partners on August 18, 2026. Visa Ventures also invested $10 million in London-based startup Velocity to further solidify its position in the field of stablecoin settlements.
