Russia requires banks to report customers' cryptocurrency holdings
2026-10-01 01:04:24
According to CoinMeta, the Central Bank of Russia plans to require financial institutions to include customers' cryptocurrency holdings in their disclosure statements. These statements are typically used for income and asset declarations, especially as part of anti-corruption measures for civil servants and government officials. According to a recently released draft, the Central Bank of Russia hopes to see information about cryptocurrencies in the statements issued by commercial banks and financial companies, including details about customers' payment accounts and bank deposits. The draft also suggests listing "digital financial assets" as defined by Russian law, such as tokens issued on private blockchains and tokenized securities. If this directive is approved, financial institutions will be required to disclose customers' cryptocurrency holdings, sales revenue, and mining profits starting from July 1, 2027.
