According to CoinMeta, Base announced that its third mainnet upgrade, Cobalt, has been launched, introducing new Validity Transactions and several B20 asset features. Validity Transactions allows users to pre-submit time-limited transactions that will only be executed once the set conditions are met. The B20 standard has added Composite Policies, enabling the combination of rules such as allowlists and blocklists through AND or OR. Schedule Multiplier Updates supports planned adjustments to the way asset balances are displayed; for example, a new seizeWithMemo feature has been added for stock splits. It also allows authorized administrators to reallocate holders' balances while enabling the asset seizure mechanism, with the source, destination, quantity, and remarks recorded on the chain. Base indicates that in the coming months, there are plans to reduce the block time from 2 seconds to 200 milliseconds, and to natively support smart accounts at the protocol level, as well as Gas proxy payments and transaction batching.
