Microsoft official account unauthorized access, promoting meme coin content
2026-10-03 11:12:30
According to CoinMeta, as reported by bitcoin.com, Microsoft's official X account was accessed without authorization. During this period, the account followed and reposted content promoting meme tokens, and the profile picture was changed to the classic paperclip icon Clippy. Microsoft subsequently confirmed with The Verge that the account's security had been restored and that the unauthorized posts had been deleted. The company is still investigating the incident. It was mentioned in the report that the account also posted an "apology" stating that Microsoft did not authorize the use of its intellectual property to promote the tokens, and that these tokens were not related to Microsoft's stock MSFT nor did they grant the holders any equity in Microsoft. That post was later deleted.
