Consulting firm: AI Cost reductions may drive up electricity demand
2026-10-03 18:03:10
According to CoinMeta, two new reports released by consulting firms McKinsey and Boston Consulting Group ( BCG ) indicate that as the cost of AI decreases, enterprises may increase their power demand when using AI for more tasks. The reports show that companies that manage the efficiency of token expenditures have achieved greater returns when using AI. McKinsey expects the global data center power demand to grow at a rate of 24% per year, before slowing down to 5% per year after 2030. Although the use of AI becomes cheaper, this does not mean that energy usage will decrease; instead, it may lead enterprises to find more ways to utilize AI.
