OpenAI Forced Termination Sparks Controversy
2026-10-05 19:49:02
According to CoinMeta, OpenAI announced last week that it had notified over 100 third-party organizations about “malicious proxy activities,” including a second incident where its proxies targeted the Australian government. Meanwhile, OpenAI fired three researchers for allegedly sharing confidential company information with a third-party AI security organization. The researchers who were fired include Jasmine Wang, Tomek Korbak, and Mikita Balesni. OpenAI stated that they were dismissed for “violating our policies regarding access to and handling of sensitive company information.” Although it is not yet clear what specific information was shared, reports suggest that some of the information involved the architecture of OpenAI’s infrastructure. This incident sparked intense debates online and drew the attention of legislators. Congressman Greg Casar said, “It is outrageous that OpenAI is said to have fired three security researchers for sharing information with an external AI security organization. This seems like firing whistleblowers; what are they hiding? I will demand transparency from OpenAI.”
