According to CoinMeta, blockchain investigator ZachXBT infiltrated a Chinese money laundering gang associated with Lazarus and initially invested $350,000. He stated that he transferred $349,700 to these launderers in order to gather intelligence and help freeze funds related to the hack incident on Bybit in February 2025. ZachXBT explained that this gang was a Chinese criminal organization working for North Korea. This hack incident resulted in a loss of $1.5 billion for the exchange Bybit, and FBI attributed it to North Korean hackers TraderTraitor. ZachXBT also pointed out that the launderers did not attempt to hide their whereabouts, and he is considered one of the most renowned investigators on the blockchain for tracking crypto hackers and money laundering activities. Since 2022, he has helped freeze over $75 million in funds, and the results of his investigations have been promptly provided to private investigators and law enforcement agencies.
