$20 AI Proxy Hacks Georgia Voter Privacy, Forces Urgent Rule-Making

According to CoinMeta, the privacy of ballots in Georgia was compromised in August 2026, forcing the establishment of emergency regulations. A researcher from Princeton University demonstrated a AI encoding proxy that cost only $20 and was capable of decrypting 1.52 million ballots from the early elections in May 2026, successfully matching 98.9% of the ballots from 114 counties. This incident marked the first time that such AI proxies directly compelled a shift towards more transparent election data policies. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger ordered the deletion of ballot ID from public records and instructed each county to shuffle the ballots before printing them, which led to an emergency meeting on October 1, 2026. At the meeting, member Salleigh Grubbs argued that this deletion order violated state law. In the end, the committee voted 3-2 in favor of updating the voting machines, despite Gabriel Sterling expressing opposition to the severity of the findings, stating that there were still uncertainties regarding the accuracy of the matching process.
