Arthur Hayes: The investment boom of AI may trigger a financial crisis
2026-10-07 13:43:21
According to CoinMeta, the former CEO Arthur Hayes warned that the current AI investment boom could lead to a financial crisis. He stated that the current AI gold rush is heading towards a cliff, and the subsequent government bailouts might push up cryptocurrency prices. He believes that this AI investment boom is unsustainable and will eventually collapse, with trillions of dollars being wasted on AI data centers. Hayes further pointed out that the increased investment in data centers will lead to an oversupply of computing power, resulting in a significant drop in costs. He predicts that the growth in AI capital expenditure will lose momentum in the middle to late 2027, followed by a clear stagnation. He emphasized that the debt market will continue to expand, while actual development will stagnate, creating a textbook example of a credit crunch. Nevertheless, Hayes believes that the government may intervene to support strategic AI companies and infrastructure projects, and liquidity may ultimately flow into risky assets such as Bitcoin.
