CoinMeta data: On Tuesday, the U.S. government transferred over $100 million in Bitcoin ( BTC ) and BNB . According to data from blockchain intelligence firm Arkham , the government sent 833.599 BTC (worth about $71.6 million at the time) to two unmarked addresses, which then transferred the coins to addresses labeled as Coinbase Prime deposit addresses. Another government-tagged wallet sent about 40,285 BNB (worth about $31.63 million) to another unmarked address. That address subsequently transferred all assets to a second unmarked address. BTC came from wallets labeled Arkham as Potapenko / Turogin confiscated funds and coins seized in the Bitfinex hacking case. The government currently still holds about $27.5 billion in crypto assets, all of which were seized in law enforcement operations. To date, the government has not used taxpayer funds for new purchases. Market commentator Jos é Rosell stated: “The transfer does not equate to a sale. According to an executive order from March 2025, the Bitcoin seized by the government will be retained in a strategic Bitcoin reserve.”
