Analyst: European Securities and Markets Authority Issues Regulatory Guidelines for Stablecoins
2026-10-09 04:02:04
According to CoinMeta, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) issued the latest regulatory guidelines on Thursday, urging regulatory authorities in EU countries to require crypto asset service providers to completely eliminate business exposures related to stablecoins that do not comply with the Crypto Assets Markets Regulation (CAMR) within three months (no later than January 8, 2027). These guidelines cover regulated activities such as trading, custody, transfers, and investment advice. Licensed institutions are required to establish technical and risk control measures to prevent EU customers from increasing their holdings of non-compliant stablecoins. Institutions can only temporarily assist users in exiting such investments under strict supervision. This move further tightens the initial guidelines issued in January 2025, with the aim of accelerating the full enforcement of compliance standards for MiCA stablecoins within the European crypto ecosystem.
