According to CoinMeta, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced a settlement of $35 million with Alex Mashinsky, the founder of Celsius, which permanently prohibits him from engaging in the cryptocurrency, securities, and commodities industries. The agreement resolves a 2023 civil fraud lawsuit against Mashinsky, which accused him of misleading investors before the collapse of Celsius. Mashinsky is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence for securities and commodities fraud and has been ordered to have more than $48 million in assets confiscated.
