According to CoinMeta, a gang stole nearly £200,000 (about $264,200) in cryptocurrencies from four customers through SIM card swapping methods. A man from London who was involved in this scheme was sentenced to two and a half years in prison on Thursday. The case began with unauthorized activities in the BT system in 2021; Ajay Shinjin (25 years old) profited more than £44,000 (about $58,100) from it and spent it in Dubai. In November 2021, the police identified four victims of cryptocurrency theft, with one losing about £40,000, another about £17,000, the third about £8,000, and the fourth victim losing as much as £130,000. Shinjin was arrested for the first time in 2021 and again in October 2023. The police stated that SIM-swap fraud is a complex and concerning form of crime, and the case demonstrates its devastating consequences for victims.
