Philadelphia Police Criticize Anthropic for Delaying Handling of False AI Murder Clue by Two Months
2026-10-10 07:23:05
According to CoinMeta, the Philadelphia police expressed strong dissatisfaction with the two-month delay by Anthropic in handling a false AI murder tip. It took the company 81 days to notify the police that its AI model had submitted a false murder tip through a public web form. The police deemed this delay unacceptable; the tip was submitted on July 18th but was marked as spam by the system and did not reach the investigators in time. A police spokesperson stated that all tips must be manually reviewed and could not be immediately processed in the real-time crime center. Anthropic discovered the issue on September 28th and reported it to the police on October 7th. The police emphasized that technology companies must ensure that their systems do not provide false information to law enforcement authorities.
