Zcash Co-founder Proposes to Terminate 8% Block Subsidy Allocation
2026-10-27 11:24:12
According to CoinMeta, Zcash co-founder and protocol developer Sean Bowe has submitted a draft proposal suggesting to terminate the allocation of 8% of the block subsidy funds to Zcash Community Grants ( ZCG ), and to transfer that portion into the network sustainability mechanism ( NSM ), temporarily halting its entry into circulation. The proposal argues that ZCG's existing funds are sufficient to support subsequent allocations, and there is no need to continue receiving the automatic block subsidy. Draft data indicates that ZCG holds approximately 91,453 ZEC tokens and about 8.8 million US dollars in other assets, while the current 8% subsidy is equivalent to approximately 52,560 ZEC tokens per year. This proposal will not change the maximum supply of ZEC, the original subsidy ratio for miners, or the allocation of the additional 12% of tokens controlled by the fund holders.
