2026-10-27 16:49:13
According to CoinMeta, Thailand has launched a digital wallet application that allows foreign tourists to exchange stablecoins such as USDT and USDC for Thai baht, and to make payments to local merchants through Thailand's QR PromptPay network. The application was launched under the regulatory sandbox program for tourists by the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and was jointly developed by Waan Exchange and Wipay. Partners include the issuer USDT, as well as The Mall Group and Visa. Local merchants do not directly receive cryptocurrencies; payments are settled in Thai baht through standard payment systems. The worpt plan also includes the launch of physical and virtual Visa prepaid cards, with a formal launch event scheduled for November 2026.
