Polymarket Faces Re-examination of the 2022 Settlement Agreement by CFTC
2026-10-28 04:16:59
According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, Polymarket is facing a re-examination of its 2022 settlement agreement by CFTC. The review includes an assessment of whether the platform complies with access restrictions in the U.S. market. This examination covers the platform's geographic location controls and U.S. advertising practices, as well as its customer protection measures on U.S. exchanges. The review of CFTC is part of an investigation that was initiated earlier this year, which also looks into past controls and procedures. Polymarket is headquartered in New York and has registered an offshore entity in Panama. Representatives from CFTC and Polymarket did not comment on this matter. Reuters noted that CFTC and the Department of Justice did not explain why similar investigations were concluded last year. Previous investigations examined the compliance of the settlement agreements, and in November 2024, FBI raided the residence of its CEO, Shayne Coplan. Both investigations were concluded in 2025 without any charges being laid. Reuters' latest report describes one of these investigations but does not announce any findings of non-compliance by the company.
