Risks in the Iranian situation rise, European natural gas prices rebound to four-year highs

According to CoinMeta, as reported by Cailian News on October 28th, the demand for heating in the Northern Hemisphere is gradually increasing, and coupled with market concerns about an escalation of conflicts in Iran, natural gas prices in Europe have risen to nearly four-year highs. After a brief decline on the previous trading day, benchmark futures rebounded, with a maximum increase of 2.6%, and for the first time since the end of 2022, they surpassed 98 euros per megawatt-hour. Sources stated that the United States has informed several Gulf of Persian countries to prepare for a short but intense military operation following the mid-term elections. Oil prices also rose in tandem. President Trump previously hinted that the U.S. might resume strikes against Iran and has already deployed additional troops in the region, which has continuously pushed up energy prices recently. Last year, the Middle East accounted for about one-fifth of global liquefied natural gas exports, and current supply is disrupted by the conflict, with no signs of recovery yet. As a result, the global natural gas market remains in a tight balance. As temperatures drop, Europe and Asia will compete for limited shipments of spot liquefied natural gas.
