Gulf stock markets fall, concerns over war drag down bank stocks
2026-10-29 16:52:29
According to CoinMeta, major stock markets in the Gulf region generally declined on Thursday morning. Saudi Arabia's benchmark stock index fell by 0.2%, Dubai's main stock index dropped by 0.5%, and Abu Dhabi's stock index decreased by 0.6%, with bank stocks leading the decline. As tensions in Yemen escalate and efforts to resolve conflicts in the Middle East remain uncertain, market sentiment has been dampened. The Yemeni government forces stated that Houthi militants attacked Aden Airport on Wednesday, and the Houthis have warned the public to evacuate the airport. The Saudi-led coalition reported that they destroyed a ballistic missile launched by Houthi militants towards eastern Saudi Arabia in the early hours of Thursday. There are still no signs of a slowdown in hostilities between the two sides. Officials involved in negotiations said that Qatari mediators have submitted a new draft agreement to Iran to end the war, but a senior Iranian official claimed that what Doha proposed is not something Iran can accept and does not constitute a formal offer at all.
