After executives from OpenAI and Anthropic recently issued warnings about the risks of AI, there was a divergence in sectors in the U.S. stock market on Monday. AI concept stocks faced pressure at the opening, while the cybersecurity sector was sought after by funds. CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, Zscaler, Okta, and Fortinet all saw significant gains during trading.
The security sector has become a safe haven for funds
Watcher.Guru citing in-trading data stated that CrowdStrike once rose by about 12% to $232.08, Zscaler rose by about 12% to $183.97, and Palo Alto Networks rose by about 11% to $366.40. Earlier data showed that Fortinet rose by more than 5%, and Okta rose by about 8%.
Changes in market sentiment stem from the intensified discussions over the development speed and security risks surrounding AI over the weekend. Reports mention that the latest statements from OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, and Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, have once again brought to the fore the cyberattack risks associated with AI, which has also prompted investors to re-examine the need for corporate security measures.
AI Warning Drives Demand Expectations
From a transactional logic perspective, the market interprets such statements as indicating that investments in network security are likely to continue to increase. With the widespread adoption of generative AI tools, companies face more complex forms of attacks, making security vendors potential beneficiaries as a result.
Among them, CrowdStrike has performed particularly outstandingly in recent months. Reports show that the stock has risen by approximately 94.8% over the past six months. This trend is partly due to the company's previously announced quarterly results and also reflects the market's expectations for growth in its products and services.
CrowdStrike Subsequent highlights will be in the financial reports.
The report also mentioned that seller analysts expect the revenue of CrowdStrike to grow by 23.2% in the next 12 months, which is lower than the annual growth rate of 36.5% over the past five years, but still remains at a relatively high level. The next important point of observation for the market will be the company's performance in the third quarter of fiscal year 2027.
According to the guidance previously provided by the company, revenue for this quarter is expected to be between $1.523 billion and $1.529 billion, with earnings per share after dilution (excluding GAAP) estimated at $0.31. If the additional annual recurring revenue continues to grow, the market may further verify whether the AI security concerns are indeed transforming into real purchasing demands from enterprises.
In the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, CrowdStrike recorded a record new ARR of $332.8 million, with total revenue increasing by 25.8% year-on-year to $1.47 billion.
