The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) stated that as the implementation of the Crypto Assets Market Regulation Act continues to deepen, in 2027 the focus of coordination on crypto asset regulation across countries will be on operational resilience, outsourcing, and ensuring that companies maintain sufficient business operations within the European Union.

Chairman Verena Ross stated on Monday that under the MiCA framework, the focus of regulation has shifted 'from rule-making to supervision and convergence'.

Ross said at a meeting of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee of the European Parliament: 'We hope that innovation will flourish within a framework that can provide clear guidance for businesses, protection for investors, and enhance market confidence.'

ESMA listed the aforementioned priorities in its 2027 work plan released on Monday. The organization plans to strengthen coordination among regulatory authorities in various countries regarding the supervision of crypto asset service providers (CASPs), with a focus on areas such as operational resilience, outsourcing risks, liquidity, reverse recruitment, and asset classification.

ESMA It is expected that the first phase of this system will be fully operational by 2027. The institution previously disclosed plans for the second phase in February. The work plan for Monday stated that the second phase will add analytical functions and expand the types of available data, with a launch planned for the fourth quarter, but it still requires approval from the board of directors.

ESMA also plans to share its regulatory experience with the European Commission in the review of MiCA, which is expected to take place before June 2027, and to prepare for any subsequent legislative proposals that may be introduced.
