For those who want to use more ChatGPT functions but feel that the current price is too high, OpenAI brings good news.
The Chief Financial Officer stated during a live interview on CNBC on Tuesday that the new proxy system of OpenAI will initially be provided through the Pro, Business and Enterprise initiatives, but the company hopes that it will eventually cover all consumers.
Friar said, "In terms of business, you will first see it in our pro, SKU, as well as business and enterprise initiatives. However, our vision is definitely to bring it to our entire consumer base, which is 1.2 billion people worldwide."
Friar describes Dots as a step towards becoming AI that can actively help people manage their lives.
She said, “Dots is now a productivity tool. It’s like an agent that gives you a nudge on your shoulder to remind you that you forgot to post a LinkedIn tomorrow.” She also added, “So it can check your emails, your calendar, your Slack, or any other place where you work.”
On Tuesday, during the Q&A session, the CEO also echoed this more ambitious goal, stating that Dots 'was initially' a high-end product.
Altman said, "I think there are very compelling reasons for this. I believe it will help us understand, as well as help people understand, how expensive AI's capabilities can be."
"But of course, you should expect that we will do something for the mass market that will benefit billions of people," Altman added.
Neither of the two executives provided a timeline or pricing for broader promotion. Currently, Dots will be offered through OpenAI's continuously expanding range of premium subscription products. OpenAI has announced a Pro 500 plan, which is a ChatGPT scheme costing $500 per month, with an annual fee totaling $6000, and it also provides a maximum usage quota.
This solution incorporates the “ultra-fast” computing power of GPT-6 and Astra from ChatGPT Work and Codex. OpenAI indicates that this can increase the speed by up to 8 times. OpenAI has also reopened the Pro plan, which costs $200 per month, while halving its computing quota. Subscribers now receive a quota that is 10 times that of the $20 per month Plus plan, which is lower than the previous 20 times.
Friar said, "A year ago, two years ago, when we launched the SKU service that cost $200 per month, people thought we were crazy. No one would spend that amount of money each month. I heard that argument over and over again." She continued, "And now, not only are people willing to spend more, but they are also shifting towards a pay-per-use model on the consumer side."
