Indianapolis, September 30th / PRNewswire / -- OnBoard Today, we announce the launch of AI Assist, which introduces cutting-edge AI security into the board management platform for direct use by directors. This conversational experience is now available to all OnBoard customers. Directors, administrators, and executives can ask questions in natural language, review earlier discussions, and search for data. Answers come with source citations to assist them in their meeting preparations.
According to the "2026 Board of Directors Effectiveness Survey" published by OnBoard, 92% of directors have used AI in their board work over the past six months, while 63% of the boards of directors they are part of do not have policies that regulate its use.

OnBoard indicates that AI Assist operates within the existing access permissions, therefore users can only retrieve materials that they are authorized to view. Customer data will never be used to train the AI model, and the judgment of directors is still required before any single decision is made.
OnBoard stated that during the beta period, AI Assist helped the board of directors discover information that could potentially influence decisions—ranging from significant risks buried in past board materials to contingent conditions that had not been resolved in a previous investment approval. Directors can now link today's proposals with these historical records and review verifiable sources before voting.
Chief Product Officer Tim Adair stated: "Every director wants to ask sharp questions, and these require a context that goes beyond what is provided in this month's material package. When a topic comes back onto the agenda, the truly useful questions are often about what has changed since the last discussion. Now, that history is immediately presented to them."
AI Assist has strengthened the core of Governance IQ – institutional memory. In July, OnBoard launched Governance IQ, aimed at connecting the history of the board of directors with industry knowledge and individual experience. By making past discussions and decisions more accessible, AI Assist helps to ensure that this knowledge continues to be effective even after changes in directors.
CEO Marc Huffman stated: "When a long-serving committee chair retires, the next director still needs to understand why earlier decisions were made. We hope that this knowledge will remain useful to the board of directors for a long time even after the contributors leave." AI Assist enables the board of directors to retain the context of decisions made over many years, not just those from recent meetings.
A live demonstration will be held at 11 a.m. Eastern Time on October 15th. Tim Adair will demonstrate a board of directors preparation scenario, and Michael Staden, the Senior Director of Product Management, will also participate in the Q&A session.
